Versatile Blogger Award!

Thank you so much to Katie over at Never Not Reading for the nomination! I appreciate it so so much! ❤

The Versatile Blogger Award is a way of bringing recognition to bloggers who create versatile, inspirational, and enjoyable content. When nominating a blogger, you put into consideration the effort they put into the writing and the uniqueness of the subjects covered.

  • If you are nominated, you have been awarded the Versatile Blogger award.
  • Include a shout-out to the blogger who nominated you with a link to their blog.
  • Share 7 facts about yourself.
  • Nominate 10-15 blogs/bloggers that you have recently discovered or follow regularly for the Versatile Blogger award.

1. I love music. I love all types of it! I listen to a lot of Panic! At the Disco lately, but I have a pretty eclectic taste. My parents exposed me to all different music types when I was a kid and it stuck with me. As I’m writing this, I’m listening to Selena Quintanilla Perez. (If you’re unfamiliar with her, check her out. She was, unfortunately, killed in 1995. But her music lives on. In 1997, Jennifer Lopez did a movie about her. A talent that was taken way too soon–she was only 24 when she died. But her story and her music is so good!)

I think the only genre of music I don’t really like is polka, haha! But I definitely listen to a lot of different things.

2. I love representation. I am biracial; I was adopted and I know my biological mother was white, but I know nothing of my father. However, it is blatantly obvious that I’m mixed. So for me to see other women who look like me succeeding in different fields, be it music or publishing; it inspires me.

3. I hate most Christmas movies. Cannot stand them. Hallmark movies have destroyed them for me, honestly. They start airing them in October, for heaven’s sake! And they air them for two weeks in July too. (I know this because my mother is watching them. -_-) The plots are all the same and I just loathe them. Ugh. At Christmas, I like the Peanuts special, the Rockefeller Tree lighting, the little specials from when I was a kid–Rudolph, Frosty, etc. Beyond that, miss me with Christmas movies.

4. Sunflowers are my favorite flowers. I find it impossible to look at them and not feel some sense of joy. It’s my goal, actually, to get a poster of Van Gogh’s Sunflowers for my wall. 🙂 I like to smile. If a poster can inspire one, why not? 🙂 I don’t remember precisely when I got into Van Gogh; I know I was young and in high school. My tastes always ran a bit left of center than that of my peers and friends. But it made my art teachers happy.

5. I adore art! I can’t draw, sculpt or any of that to save my life. I really can’t. But I can appreciate it and I do. As stated above, Van Gogh is one of my favorite artists. There is a great deal of ugliness in the world and I find that art, along with books, is a saving grace from it all. This is a clip from Doctor Who, that always makes me cry. In a good way. Enjoy that. 🙂

Some of my other favorites are Michaelangelo, Leonardo, Frida Kahlo, Modigliani, Mary Cassatt, Toulouse-Lautrec…etc.

6. I am me! I’m quirky and I know it; I don’t care if people don’t like it. I’m 32…almost 33. I’m tired of trying to fit into lines that I will quite literally never fit into. I am who I am. The song ‘This Is Me’ from The Greatest Showman has become my theme song. I absolutely love it.

7. I think it’s rude… when people ask me when I’m going to have kids. Drives me nuts. I don’t even have a boyfriend. I know they mean well. But I don’t want children of my own. I like kids. I have no issue getting right down and playing with them. I had an absolute ball when I visited one of my long-time friends and got to spend time with her and her family. (Shoutout to my little pals A and C! ❤ Not posting their names cause they’re tender age kids.) I’m happy to be a presence in their lives, but as to having kids of my own, that’s always going to be a ‘no’.

Blogger Recognition Award. <3

The rules

  • Thank the person who nominated you and include their link
  • Give a brief explanation of how your blog began.
  • Give some advice to new bloggers.
  • Name ten nominees and include their links.
  • Tag your nominees on twitter to let them know.

Thank you to the wonderful Devyani at Books&Blogs~Life&Literature for the nomination. I believe this is the first time that I’ve been nominated for this particular award and I’m quite flattered and honored to be amongst those she nominated. If you haven’t, you should give her a follow. She’s newer to the community, so give her a huge warm welcome. ❤

So. Advice to new bloggers.

  1. Be Patient. Publicists are very busy. If you’re reaching out to them for an ARC, be very patient. They have a lot on their plates. If they answer, be friendly and personable! Show your excitement and always, always be polite. If they don’t answer you, don’t take it personally.
  2. Have Fun! The minute this feels like a chore? Step back. This is supposed to be fun! The less you enjoy it, the more it’ll show on your blog on those occasions that you post. So bear that in mind.
  3. Engage with the community. There’s a whole circle of bloggers on social media; don’t hold back. Jump in. Ask questions, talk to others, get involved! Almost everyone I’ve met has been so accepting and lovely, happy to help and to talk shop, so to speak.

    4. This is the most important one.

Sunshine Blogger Award!

Thank you so much to Mani at Mani’s Book Corner for the nomination!

  • Thank the blogger who nominated you in a blog post and link back to their blog.
  • Answer the 11 questions the blogger asked you.
  • Nominate (at least) 11 new blogs to receive the award and write them 11 new questions.
  • List the rules and display the Sunshine Blogger Award logo in your post and/or on your blog.

Mani asked me….

1. Do you lend out your books?

Rarely. If I lend you a book, you have to be someone I know well and someone who I know takes care of things.

2. Do you write in your books?

I used to write my name in my books and date when I got them. I don’t do that anymore because as my mother says, “Everyone knows they’re yours, Clarissa.”

3. What is the one book you will always recommend to everyone?

I always recommend Little Women, but if we’re going with more contemporary reads, Harry Potter, lol.

4. Can you read on the bus/in the car?

I can! And I like to read with my headphones on and some sort of music playing. Lately, it’s been Panic! At The Disco.

5. What makes you love a book?

When it makes me forget where I am. If it can bring me into that world and make me forget everything else, I’m in love.

6. How often do you agree with the critics about a book?

I don’t read a lot of reviews prior to a release, ironically. It’s not a slight to them, I just like to form my own opinions. After I read whatever it is, then I look at reviews and I find that it’s hit or miss.

7. How do you feel about giving bad/negative reviews?

Some might say I enjoy doing so because I seem to take a bit of glee in being so brutally honest, lol. I don’t enjoy it–especially if I was excited for the book. No, I take that back. My sarcasm comes out especially well when I am being brutal.

8. If you could read in a foreign language, which language would you choose?

French. I just love the language.

9. What’s the longest you’ve gone without reading?

10. Favourite film adaptation of a book?

I love the Harry Potter movies. (Except for the third film, I just didn’t enjoy that.) Gone With The Wind, Little Women (with Winona Ryder), I love Forrest Gump too, the book was terrible, but the movie was so good. (Then again, I love Tom Hanks.)

11. Which book character strongly resembles your personality

I always say it’s a tie between Scarlett O’Hara and Jo March. But I think it could be Lou from Me Before You too!

My Questions!

  1. What is your favorite movie?
  2. If you could fancast your favorite book, which would it be and who would you pick?
  3. If you could jump into one of your books, which one?
  4. What’s your favorite color?
  5. What is your biggest pet peeve in books?
  6. Do you lend your books out to people?
  7. What do you like to do beyond reading?
  8. What’s your favorite food?
  9.  Do you listen to music when you’re reading?
  10. You’ve just won the lottery.  What is the first thing you’re going to do with the money?
  11. What is one random fact about you?

Unique Blogger Award.

Bree over at In Love & Words tagged me in this awhile ago and I honestly just forgot about it till I was going through my notifications. Thank you so much, my lovely! You should definitely give her a follow! I love reading her blog and I do my best to visit often.

So, here are the rules:

  • Display the award!
  • Thank the person who nominated you, and post a link to their blog on your blog.
  • Answer the questions they’ve written for you!
  • Nominate 8-13 bloggers and give them three questions in the spirit of sharing love and solidarity within our blogging family!

My Questions:

1. If you took a nap and woke up in the world of one of your books–where would you be waking up?

2. If you could body swap with any character, who would you pick and why?

3. Give a piece of advice to new book bloggers! 🙂

Bree’s Questions

1. What are your favorite type of book blogger posts to read and why?

I love book tags/award posts. I think they’re so much fun. I love to see what everybody answers. It really shows everyone’s personalities more than a review, honestly.

2. Who is one of your favorite main characters ever written and why? (And what book are they from?)

I always answer Belle, Scarlett O’Hara or Jo March, so for the sake of not having you lot roll your eyes at me, I’ll pick someone else and that, my friends, would be Hermione Granger. What I love about Hermione is that she’s bookish and smart, but she’s a bit insecure about herself, which I can relate to. I think she’s really a wonderful character and I wish I could be her friend. I also love Luna Lovegood because personality wise, we’re pretty similar.

3. Do you like poetry? Do you like reading poetry on blogs?

I love poetry and I wish it was on more blogs. I shared some earlier this year and those posts got zero love. Here’s my favorite.

You may write me down in history
With your bitter, twisted lies,
You may trod me in the very dirt
But still, like dust, I’ll rise.

Does my sassiness upset you?
Why are you beset with gloom?
‘Cause I walk like I’ve got oil wells
Pumping in my living room.

Just like moons and like suns,
With the certainty of tides,
Just like hopes springing high,
Still I’ll rise.

Did you want to see me broken?
Bowed head and lowered eyes?
Shoulders falling down like teardrops,
Weakened by my soulful cries?

Does my haughtiness offend you?
Don’t you take it awful hard
‘Cause I laugh like I’ve got gold mines
Diggin’ in my own backyard.

You may shoot me with your words,
You may cut me with your eyes,
You may kill me with your hatefulness,
But still, like air, I’ll rise.

Does my sexiness upset you?
Does it come as a surprise
That I dance like I’ve got diamonds
At the meeting of my thighs?

Out of the huts of history’s shame
I rise
Up from a past that’s rooted in pain
I rise
I’m a black ocean, leaping and wide,
Welling and swelling I bear in the tide.

Leaving behind nights of terror and fear
I rise
Into a daybreak that’s wondrously clear
I rise
Bringing the gifts that my ancestors gave,
I am the dream and the hope of the slave.
I rise
I rise
I rise.

Dr. Maya Angelou.

Awesome Blogger Award. <3

I was tagged for this awesome tag by the ever awesome and mysterious Arachnid Weaver. Check out their answers for the tag!

  • Thank the person who nominated you.
  • Include the reason behind the award.
  • Include the banner in your post.
  • Tag it under #awesomebloggeraward in the Reader.
  • Answer the questions your nominator gave you.
  • Nominate at least 5 awesome bloggers and let your nominees know that they’ve been nominated.
  • Give your nominees ten questions.

Behind The Awesome Blogger Award

The award was created by Maggie at Dreaming of Guatemala who stated – “This is an award for the absolutely wonderful writers all across the blogging world. They have beautiful blogs, are kind and lovely, and always find a way to add happiness and laughter to the lives of their readers. That is what truly defines an awesome blogger.”

The Questions

If you could choose any job to have in the world (fictional or real) what would it be and why?

If I were to pick a real job, I’d say something with animals or I’d work at a bookstore. I absolutely adore animals and I think in another life I’d have been a vet or marine biologist. I’m dreadful at math and science and I have horrible allergies, so that destroyed those dreams. If “Professional Dog Petter” could be a job, sign me up!

In the fiction world…Magizoologist!! Or an Auror. Maybe the Care of Magical Creatures teacher after Hagrid retires?

Who is your favorite booktuber/blogger?

I have too many favorites and I don’t want to offend anyone by picking one over the other! I think you are all unique and individual, each adding something to the book blogging world. ❤

Why did you decide to start blogging?

It was just a split decision.

I wish I were joking. It was just a fun thing that I started because I was kind of bored. But it became so much more!

We all have literary passports, where is yours stamped the most?

The UK because I read so much historical fiction about the British Royals and hello, Hogwarts!  Also, Westeros… :O

What’s your Harry Potter name? Use this generator to find out!

What are some of your guilty pleasures? Whether they are book-related or not.

  • Hot Chocolate with marshmallows and whipped cream.
  • Reading when I should be sleeping. (I’ll sleep when I’m dead or during the day, tbh!)
  • Buying all the Harry Potter things if I have the money! (I mean, seriously, if it’s HP, I’m probably going to want it.)
  • My funko pops. I have so many. And so little room.
  • All the Beauty and the Beast things!

What is something that you love about your blog?

This is the answer that was here and I can’t really change anything! It’s so on point. I will add though, I love that my horizons are being broadened by what other bloggers are reading too.

There are many things that I love about my blog.

  • I love connecting with people from all over the world about shared interests.
  • I love being random and writing weird posts.
  • I love how my writing has improved since I’ve started this blog. (Practice makes better, after all.)
  • I love reading the spam comments!

What is your favorite post that you have personally done?

Can I pick more than one? The posts that I like the most, ironically, are when I’m complaining. But its because I’ve come a long way from these and they show where I was when I began.

Why I Hate 50 Shades.
By far, one of my most popular posts. I don’t know if it’s because I was so honest or because people felt the same way, but I loved the response and that I could get how it was out there.

-My Review of ‘The Manner of Amy’s Death‘. I know it’s terrible but I was SO blunt.

And this was the post that started it all. I notice now, I was cranky as hell! Lol, seriously, I was mean! I hope I’ve gotten better with that. The Emancipator’s Wife.

I’m going to do the same thing–see those questions? Answer those. 🙂 They’re really good and they get you thinking. So have a field day, babes!

Mystery Blogger Award!

captureI won an award today! I am so flattered and I owe thanks to the amazing Andrea at Andrea’s Nirvana today for this one. 🙂 I am always honored when one of my fellow bloggers thinks enough of me to send me one. It’s sometimes a lonely thing, blogging. But then when people like or comment on your posts, it feels worth it. And the days you get an award, you can’t help but feel pretty special. I had a rough day yesterday, with WordPress trying to delete me. (Apparently, I had violated the terms of service, though I have no idea how? But fortunately, they reinstated me.) So thank you a million times, Andrea, you really made my day!

  • Put the award logo/image on your blog
  • List the rules.
  • Thank whoever nominated you and provide a link to their blog.
  • Mention the creator of the award (Okoto Enigma @ Okoto Enigma’s Blog)
  • Tell your readers 3 things about yourself and answer the questions given by the person who tagged you
  • Nominate 10 – 20 people
  • Notify your nominees by commenting on their blog
  • Ask your nominees any 5 questions of your choice; with one weird or funny question (specify)
  • Share a link to your best post(s)

My best and most popular post seems to be my ‘Why I Hate Fifty Shades‘ one! It’s kind of amusing to me but I am definitely not complaining. I like the dialogue it created. I liked knowing I wasn’t alone in how I felt. Granted, I”m sure people disagreed, but none felt the need to troll and bash me, so I’ll take that as a win any day of the week.

Andrea asked me five questions…

  1. Favorite magic system?

I was going to say Floo Powder, but I think Apparating would be rather handy. Unless you get spliced…

  2. Favorite post to write?
I swear, you’re going to laugh, but my favorite post was my Why I Hate Fifty Shades. I felt much better once I got it out of my system and that there were other people who felt the same.
Other posts that are my favorites are my interview with C. W. Gortner, my features in books I’m SUPER excited for. It’s like picking a child, stop making me choose! Lol.
  3. Last song you listened to?

This one!  It’s a Linkin Park remix and it’s so damn good.

  4. Weirdest dream you ever had?

I became Pope. That was pretty weird. But definitely interesting!

  5. Did it ever happen that you made up a memory? Or that you feel like a memory is made up?

I swear my parents make up stuff about me, haha. But honestly, knowing myself as I do, I can’t say that they’re made up, they’re true. I was a bit of a character as a kid and I still am now.

  1. I don’t plan on ever having children. I love them, but they’re not for me. I can barely take care of myself! I find it so weird when people remind me that ‘the clock is ticking!’ Um, no, it’s not. The clock was never started for that.
  2. I collect postcards! I love them. I would love more, so if any of you would like to exchange postcards, I’m totally down to send you one from here. 🙂
  3. My left eye is bigger than my right eye. There. That’s a thing you know now.

1. Here’s my ‘funny’ question. If you had to pick a song from a Disney movie to describe your life, which would you pick and why?

2. My weird question. Team Edward or Team Jacob?! lmao. No, who is your book crush and why?

3. What is the worst book you have ever read?

4. What is the ugliest book cover you’ve ever seen?

5. Do you like to listen to music when you read?

They have beautiful blogs, are kind and lovely, and always find a way to add happiness and laughter to the lives of their readers. That is what truly defines an awesome blogger.”

Whitney’s Questions:

1: If you could only choose one genre to read for the rest of your life, what would it be?

I’m torn between historical fiction and fantasy. I think I’d probably go with Historical Fiction because there are thousands of years covered and I love reading about them.

2: What is the longest series you have ever read?

Harry Potter, haha. But I want to read Sarah J Maas’s Throne of Glass series, which I think is longer. I’m not sure.

3: Have you ever met any authors in person? If so, who?

I haven’t! I would like to though. Unfortunately, I live in a really small town and we don’t have a bookstore here. Now, online, I have met several of my favorite authors and I’d love to meet with them in person.

4: What color dominates your bookshelves?

I haven’t really thought about that or given it a real look to gauge that. It’s pretty multi-colored, honestly.

5: Do you have any genre that you do not like/would never read?

Erotica. It’s not because I’m a prude or anything, I just don’t like it.

My Questions:

1. When you’re not reading, what do you enjoy doing?
2. Do you shop online for books or do you visit a bookstore? Which do you prefer?
3. When you were a child, what was your favorite book?
4. What is your least favorite book?
5. What is a genre you wish you could get into but just can’t seem to?

My Nominees:

  • Thank the blogger(s) who nominated you in a blog post and link back to their blog.
  • Answer the 11 questions sent by the person who nominated you.
  • Nominate 5-11 new blogs to receive the award and write them 11 new questions.

Siobhan’s Questions & My Answers

  • What trope do you love/hate the most?

I think that the “damaged goods guy” is one. And I mean, I’m sorry this happened to you but that is no reason to treat everyone else like crap. Also, main female character? You deserve better! Leave his creepy self!

  • Now, which trope do you wt to do away with?

I honestly could do without a love triangle. But I know that isn’t going away. I do wish authors would stop using mental illness as a ‘quirk’ or something a few pills will make disappear.

  • Which series do you love to hate?

Fifty Shades of Bullshit.

I love hating on it. I know, it’s immature, but I love seeing people get annoyed after I point out valid facts about that abusive tripe.

  • What do you wish to change/make better about the blogging life/community?

I think I would make interacting a little easier. I would love to set up a Discord server or join one, if one exists, where book bloggers could chat about books, their blogs and all of that wonderful stuff.

  • What is your next anticipated read?

I have so many!! I think my top pick for right now is The Locksmith’s Daughter.

  • Which is your top three OTP (one true pairing)?

Do they have to be canon? Because some of my favorites are not. I am going to list

First, Harry/Hermione. I never really liked her and Ron together, honestly. It just seemed like all they’d do is fight, whereas Hermione and Harry seem to be better suited for each other.

My others are Feyre and Rhysand from ACOTAR and Audrey and Thomas from the Stalking Jack the Ripper series.

  • Who is your favourite villainous character?

Oh my God. How can I pick just one? I love villains. But I think I would pick…Bellatrix Lestrange. She was such a damn boss and Helena Bonham Carter played her with such gusto that I can’t read the books without seeing her. The whole cast of HP was a rare case of perfect casting. “I killed Sirius Black!” I bet you read that in her voice too.

  1. Who would you love to see dead? And when I say that, I mean fictional characters.
  • What is your last DNF book?

The Dragon Queen by William Andrews. Quite dry and I just couldn’t get into it for the life of me.

  • Which book would you love to be transported in?

The Wizarding World, obviously. I am kind of obsessed with Harry Potter if one didn’t notice, lol.

  • Who is your latest book boyfriend or girlfriend?

I don’t have one right now!

I’m not nominating anyone because I am mobile and it’s a pain in the ass to try and tag.

    8. What do you hate about blogging?
9.Where is your favorite place to be?
    10. Tell a random fact about yourself!

    My nominees are:
    {I’m sorry there’s not 10!}

swirl-divider-purple-smallI’ve answered both series of questions from those who nominated me:
    1. Favourite game?
Well, if you mean like a board game, I’m going to go with Monopoly. I was terrible at it as a kid, but I’ve gotten better at it. Computer games, I’m going with the Assassin’s Creed series.

    2. Anything you would like to learn that you haven’t learned already?/
I’d like to learn French and Spanish.

    3. What is your dream job?
    To work at Colonial Williamsburg.

    4. Films or books?
I love both! Do I have to choose?

    5. Furthest place you have traveled to?
Roatan, Honduras. I was on a cruise. We also stopped in Cozumel, Mexico, Belize and Grand Cayman Island.

    6. Favourite part about blogging?

All the wonderful people I’ve met. :]

    7. Most memorable part about blogging?

Getting to talk to authors I might not have ever gotten to meet and to talk about their work.

    8. Favourtie song?

All time? Ugh, you’re killing me! Haha. “Let It Be” by the Beatles.

    9. Favourite musical artist/band?
Artist: Right now, I’m really into Sam Smith.
Band: Backstreet Boys. (LoL, I know.)

    10. Favourite artistic/creative artist?
Vincent van Gogh and Frida Kahlo. I also like Renaissance art.

Pick any work of art or artifact from any time or place to display in your home. Feel free to ignore all practical concerns when answering this question.

This is such an awesome question. I would take La Scapigliata by Leonardo da Vinci. I’d want to have a Da Vinci Code-esque adventure to get it first though, lol.

What was your major in college and why did you pick it?
I didn’t actually finish college, but I had hoped to major in history with a minor in British Literature. I love history and I really enjoy BritLit.

Imagine that you wake up one morning and have a rare day off, with no responsibilities whatsoever. How do you spend the day?
Sleeping, haha.

Describe your personal sense of style by referring to the characters or pop culture icons it most resembles.
<—Basically my style, lol.

Who is your role model and why?

I don’t think I really have one. I’m just kind of me and  I don’t want to look up to someone who will disappoint. But if I had to pick, perhaps I’d pick Alice Roosevelt, Theodore’s daughter. He once commented, “I can either run the country or I can attend to Alice, but I cannot possibly do both.” So, that tells you something about her. 🙂

What is your favorite non-fiction book (because everyone always asks about fiction)?

Do you think a movie can ever be better than the book it’s based upon? (I know I’m being scandalous here!)
It can! Forrest Gump is a perfect example because Book!Forrest is actually a bit of an ass and he’s mean! Movie!Forrest is just perfect. He’s emotional in a way that I don’t think book version is. I just love the movie version so much more. (And Tom Hanks is just amazing to me.)

What is your dream job (real or invented)?
I answered this, but I’d really love to work at Colonial Williamsburg. 🙂 I just love it there.

What would the title of your memoir be?
“God bless you, blow your nose.’
I have terrible allergies and I’m always sneezing…so my mom always says that to me. I joked I’d name my memoirs said title.

Would you rather have an unlimited, forever-replenishing supply of good books, cute clothing, or yummy snacks?

I have so many books and snacks are easy to come by. But I’m a big girl, so cute clothing in my size would be fantastic!

Pick a foreign language that you want to learn.
Well, I said French and Spanish already, but I’d also like to learn how to speak Italian or Greek.
