Siobhan’s Questions & My Answers

  • What trope do you love/hate the most?

I think that the “damaged goods guy” is one. And I mean, I’m sorry this happened to you but that is no reason to treat everyone else like crap. Also, main female character? You deserve better! Leave his creepy self!

  • Now, which trope do you wt to do away with?

I honestly could do without a love triangle. But I know that isn’t going away. I do wish authors would stop using mental illness as a ‘quirk’ or something a few pills will make disappear.

  • Which series do you love to hate?

Fifty Shades of Bullshit.

I love hating on it. I know, it’s immature, but I love seeing people get annoyed after I point out valid facts about that abusive tripe.

  • What do you wish to change/make better about the blogging life/community?

I think I would make interacting a little easier. I would love to set up a Discord server or join one, if one exists, where book bloggers could chat about books, their blogs and all of that wonderful stuff.

  • What is your next anticipated read?

I have so many!! I think my top pick for right now is The Locksmith’s Daughter.

  • Which is your top three OTP (one true pairing)?

Do they have to be canon? Because some of my favorites are not. I am going to list

First, Harry/Hermione. I never really liked her and Ron together, honestly. It just seemed like all they’d do is fight, whereas Hermione and Harry seem to be better suited for each other.

My others are Feyre and Rhysand from ACOTAR and Audrey and Thomas from the Stalking Jack the Ripper series.

  • Who is your favourite villainous character?

Oh my God. How can I pick just one? I love villains. But I think I would pick…Bellatrix Lestrange. She was such a damn boss and Helena Bonham Carter played her with such gusto that I can’t read the books without seeing her. The whole cast of HP was a rare case of perfect casting. “I killed Sirius Black!” I bet you read that in her voice too.

  1. Who would you love to see dead? And when I say that, I mean fictional characters.
  • What is your last DNF book?

The Dragon Queen by William Andrews. Quite dry and I just couldn’t get into it for the life of me.

  • Which book would you love to be transported in?

The Wizarding World, obviously. I am kind of obsessed with Harry Potter if one didn’t notice, lol.

  • Who is your latest book boyfriend or girlfriend?

I don’t have one right now!

I’m not nominating anyone because I am mobile and it’s a pain in the ass to try and tag.

sunshine-blogger-award2I was nominated for the Sunshine Blogger Award by Lyn from Nomadic Worlds. This was very unexpected and quite delightful! Thank you so, so much for nominating me! I really appreciate the thought and I hope that you like my answers. 🙂

1. What’s your favorite thing about reading?

My favorite thing about reading is how the world disappears, that I am taken into a new one, I meet new people, I make new friends, I am brought to another time and place. I am immersed and it’s a beautiful sensation.

I also love the feel of my books in my hand and the way they smell.

This isn’t to take away from my kindle; I have it in a purple polka dot case. 😀

2. Are you an eclectic reader or do you stick to one genre?

I love historical fiction, but I enjoy memoirs, young adult, retellings, fantasy and mysteries.

3. How do you motivate yourself to keep your blog up and running?

It’s honestly a day by day process. I have depression and there are times I’m tempted to just walk. But there is a little voice that tells me, “Don’t do it. Keep going.” It’s just a matter of it’s a good day or not.

4. Do you plan and schedule your posts or are you a pantser?

Both, lol. I don’t always plan them; the ones that are planned are usual blog tours, others are fly by the seat of my pants, yes.

5. If you could have one superpower, what would it be?

I’d like to be someone who could literally jump into a book and live the story.  Can that be a super power? If not, I’d like to be Wonder Woman.

6. What do you find most challenging about blogging?

I find thinking of different topics for my posts to be particularly challenging.

7. What are you most proud of about blogging?

How long I’ve been doing it! My blog is going to be 4 in August! I know I’ve had little hiatuses here and there but I’m still proud that I come back to it and blog.

8. If you could travel back in time, would you do it?

Hell yeah! Can my time machine look like the TARDIS?

9. If you had to choose a title for your autobiography, what would it be?

My mom always joked I should it call it ‘God Bless You, Blow Your Nose’. It’s something she is always saying to me because I sneeze a lot.

10. Do you actively keep up with latest books or do you just read what looks good to you, no matter the year of release?

Both. I love current reads but I’m just as happy to curl up with an old book too. The year doesn’t matter; so long as the main subject is good, I’m game.

11. What are you looking forward to most right now?

Well, I’m looking forward to my new bed! Haha. I’m hoping if I have enough room I can get another bookshelf or two, even if they’re small.

  1. Do you belong to any subscription box clubs, like Book of the Month?
  2. What’s your favorite thing about reading?
  3. What is your least favorite genre?
  4. Do you think there are any book to movie adaptations that end up with the movie being better?
  5. Who is your favorite author?
  6. What is your least favorite trope in a book?
  7. Do you do any creative writing of your own?
  8.  If you could meet any dead author, who would you choose and why?
  9. If you could live in any book, which would you choose?
  10. What made you become a book blogger?
  11.  Any advice to new book bloggers?

ER’s Questions!

What is the one thing that you don’t like about Blogging?

One thing I don’t like is the days where I am inspired to blog, but I can’t seem to get the words out right. I’ll spend hours trying before I give up, frustrated.

Describe your reading nook.

My reading nook is the corner of my bedroom. I have one large bookcase and a smaller one. I’m expecting another to arrive soon–a belated birthday gift. I’m pretty sure that it’ll be filled up soon! Haha. I have an old desk chair but i need to replace it, as it’s very uncomfortable.

Have you ever given a really bad rating to a book? How did you feel about it?

I have. When I was first blogging; I didn’t have much in the way of a filter, and I lambasted this one book. I don’t remember the name of it now, but I remember being extremely honest and frank in how I felt about it.  I felt good at the time but I look back and I realise I probably came off as an ass. I didn’t offer any constructive criticism, so it was a bad review.

How do you juggle your responsibilities and commitments with blogging and reading?

I don’t have much in the way of responsibilities, but I admit, I read a lot at night, when I’m going to bed. Unfortunately, a few more pages always ends up the entire bloody book! It’s not always bad, but when I’m a zombie the following day, I kind of regret it.

Would you rather party or read?
Read. I’m very uncomfortable at parties, unless it’s with family and then it’s better because I know the people there. I hate the awkwardness of parties where I don’t know anyone.

Which fictional character would you marry?
Oh wow. This a hard one! But I think I would pick Rhett Butler. I know it’s a peculiar choice to some, but ever since I was a little girl, people have joked that I’m just like Scarlett O’Hara. So I expect that a marriage to Rhett would be fun. Unlike Miss O’Hara, there’s no Ashley Wilkes to distract me from Rhett.

What are the qualities that make a book stand-out?

Well, I am shallow. I love a pretty cover. If it catches my eye, then I’m quite interested. But for me, a good book is one that makes me feel like I’m right in the midst of all the action, I love descriptions; good detailed ones. I love vibrant characters. I want hours to go by when I think it’s only been a few minutes.

What would be the one question you would ask your favourite author? Name the author.

Did Scarlett and Rhett get back together?! –Margaret Mitchell

Suggest a book for your father.

I’m adopted and I don’t know anything about my father, including who he is.

Which character do you identify with the most?

Well, I’m torn between Scarlett O’Hara and Jo March. There’s a rebellious and stubborn streak in me, one that no one has ever been able to break. I’ve always known what I wanted (or what I thought I wanted) and I’ve been bullheaded, stopping at nothing to get my way. My family is important to me and there’s really nothing that I wouldn’t do for them, which is a trait that both young women have. I feel a kinship with Jo because of my love of writing, but I’ve always felt a bit like Scarlett personality wise.

Of course, I identify heavily with Belle from Beauty and the Beast, but I think everyone knows that about me!

Give two pieces of advice to your future blogging self.

Be patient. The words will come when they’re ready and not a moment before. Forcing them only makes them sound terrible and everyone else can tell that they’re forced.

Stay passionate. If you feel the love fading, take a step back. Take a break. Reconnect with your love and then start over, but not until you feel ready to do so. Else you’ll burn out and then rage quit again.
