1. I love music. I love all types of it! I listen to a lot of Panic! At the Disco lately, but I have a pretty eclectic taste. My parents exposed me to all different music types when I was a kid and it stuck with me. As I’m writing this, I’m listening to Selena Quintanilla Perez. (If you’re unfamiliar with her, check her out. She was, unfortunately, killed in 1995. But her music lives on. In 1997, Jennifer Lopez did a movie about her. A talent that was taken way too soon–she was only 24 when she died. But her story and her music is so good!)

I think the only genre of music I don’t really like is polka, haha! But I definitely listen to a lot of different things.

2. I love representation. I am biracial; I was adopted and I know my biological mother was white, but I know nothing of my father. However, it is blatantly obvious that I’m mixed. So for me to see other women who look like me succeeding in different fields, be it music or publishing; it inspires me.

3. I hate most Christmas movies. Cannot stand them. Hallmark movies have destroyed them for me, honestly. They start airing them in October, for heaven’s sake! And they air them for two weeks in July too. (I know this because my mother is watching them. -_-) The plots are all the same and I just loathe them. Ugh. At Christmas, I like the Peanuts special, the Rockefeller Tree lighting, the little specials from when I was a kid–Rudolph, Frosty, etc. Beyond that, miss me with Christmas movies.

4. Sunflowers are my favorite flowers. I find it impossible to look at them and not feel some sense of joy. It’s my goal, actually, to get a poster of Van Gogh’s Sunflowers for my wall. 🙂 I like to smile. If a poster can inspire one, why not? 🙂 I don’t remember precisely when I got into Van Gogh; I know I was young and in high school. My tastes always ran a bit left of center than that of my peers and friends. But it made my art teachers happy.

5. I adore art! I can’t draw, sculpt or any of that to save my life. I really can’t. But I can appreciate it and I do. As stated above, Van Gogh is one of my favorite artists. There is a great deal of ugliness in the world and I find that art, along with books, is a saving grace from it all. This is a clip from Doctor Who, that always makes me cry. In a good way. Enjoy that. 🙂

Some of my other favorites are Michaelangelo, Leonardo, Frida Kahlo, Modigliani, Mary Cassatt, Toulouse-Lautrec…etc.

6. I am me! I’m quirky and I know it; I don’t care if people don’t like it. I’m 32…almost 33. I’m tired of trying to fit into lines that I will quite literally never fit into. I am who I am. The song ‘This Is Me’ from The Greatest Showman has become my theme song. I absolutely love it.

7. I think it’s rude… when people ask me when I’m going to have kids. Drives me nuts. I don’t even have a boyfriend. I know they mean well. But I don’t want children of my own. I like kids. I have no issue getting right down and playing with them. I had an absolute ball when I visited one of my long-time friends and got to spend time with her and her family. (Shoutout to my little pals A and C! ❤ Not posting their names cause they’re tender age kids.) I’m happy to be a presence in their lives, but as to having kids of my own, that’s always going to be a ‘no’.

Mystery Blogger Award!

captureI won an award today! I am so flattered and I owe thanks to the amazing Andrea at Andrea’s Nirvana today for this one. 🙂 I am always honored when one of my fellow bloggers thinks enough of me to send me one. It’s sometimes a lonely thing, blogging. But then when people like or comment on your posts, it feels worth it. And the days you get an award, you can’t help but feel pretty special. I had a rough day yesterday, with WordPress trying to delete me. (Apparently, I had violated the terms of service, though I have no idea how? But fortunately, they reinstated me.) So thank you a million times, Andrea, you really made my day!

  • Put the award logo/image on your blog
  • List the rules.
  • Thank whoever nominated you and provide a link to their blog.
  • Mention the creator of the award (Okoto Enigma @ Okoto Enigma’s Blog)
  • Tell your readers 3 things about yourself and answer the questions given by the person who tagged you
  • Nominate 10 – 20 people
  • Notify your nominees by commenting on their blog
  • Ask your nominees any 5 questions of your choice; with one weird or funny question (specify)
  • Share a link to your best post(s)

My best and most popular post seems to be my ‘Why I Hate Fifty Shades‘ one! It’s kind of amusing to me but I am definitely not complaining. I like the dialogue it created. I liked knowing I wasn’t alone in how I felt. Granted, I”m sure people disagreed, but none felt the need to troll and bash me, so I’ll take that as a win any day of the week.

Andrea asked me five questions…

  1. Favorite magic system?

I was going to say Floo Powder, but I think Apparating would be rather handy. Unless you get spliced…

  2. Favorite post to write?
I swear, you’re going to laugh, but my favorite post was my Why I Hate Fifty Shades. I felt much better once I got it out of my system and that there were other people who felt the same.
Other posts that are my favorites are my interview with C. W. Gortner, my features in books I’m SUPER excited for. It’s like picking a child, stop making me choose! Lol.
  3. Last song you listened to?

This one!  It’s a Linkin Park remix and it’s so damn good.

  4. Weirdest dream you ever had?

I became Pope. That was pretty weird. But definitely interesting!

  5. Did it ever happen that you made up a memory? Or that you feel like a memory is made up?

I swear my parents make up stuff about me, haha. But honestly, knowing myself as I do, I can’t say that they’re made up, they’re true. I was a bit of a character as a kid and I still am now.

  1. I don’t plan on ever having children. I love them, but they’re not for me. I can barely take care of myself! I find it so weird when people remind me that ‘the clock is ticking!’ Um, no, it’s not. The clock was never started for that.
  2. I collect postcards! I love them. I would love more, so if any of you would like to exchange postcards, I’m totally down to send you one from here. 🙂
  3. My left eye is bigger than my right eye. There. That’s a thing you know now.

1. Here’s my ‘funny’ question. If you had to pick a song from a Disney movie to describe your life, which would you pick and why?

2. My weird question. Team Edward or Team Jacob?! lmao. No, who is your book crush and why?

3. What is the worst book you have ever read?

4. What is the ugliest book cover you’ve ever seen?

5. Do you like to listen to music when you read?

The Unique Blogger Award!

Well, I did not see this coming! I feel very honored when I see that I’ve been tagged in these. I’m not usually one to think of myself as being worthy; so thank you to Lili @Lili’s Blissful Pages.

  • Display the award!
  • Thank the person who nominated you, and post a link to their blog on your blog.
  • Answer the questions they’ve written for you!
  • Nominate 8-13 bloggers and give them three questions in the spirit of sharing love and solidarity within our blogging family!

So…the Questions I have to answer are:

  1. If you only could use 3 words to describe your blog which ones would you choose and why?
  2. Is there anything you would change about yourself?
  3. What is a book so amazing that you could talk about it forever and why?

  1.  Quirky. That’s the first word I’d pick. I think it’s a good reflection of my personality and I am a quirky individual. My content is full of random facts and pop culture references and it’s just a little left of center.
  2. Open. I post about books, obviously, but I also try to make this feel like a safe place for everyone. I’m not afraid to stand up for what I’m thinking. And I will always be an ally to everyone, so this is a place where you’ll find someone who will listen and help as best I can.
  3. Unique. I love to think that I am unique in some way. Each blogger has something they bring to the table and I hope that I am not any different.  As I mentioned, I’m full of pop culture references, gifs, lame jokes. I try to bring those forward.

2.  I think I would change…no. I really wouldn’t because I like myself. Maybe I would be less of a spendthrift. Maybe I would be more musically inclined.  Maybe I should have finished college. But maybe I’m just inclined to be a little spitfire. If you mean physically, I’d have my hair long again.

3. I think I would pick the Harry Potter series for this, unsurprisingly. I’ve been very vocal about my love for the series. Each time I read the book or see the films, I’m able to notice some new, random thing that I didn’t before. I am picking them because they genuinely mean a lot to me.

What delightful questions!

My questions are:

1. If you could be any main character in a book of your choosing, who would you pick and why?

2. What would the story of your life be called and why?

3. Is it true that the book is always better than the movie?

My Picks are…
Starlight Novels
Written In Ink
Paper Royalty
Under the Covers.
Confessions of a YA Reader
Howlin’ Library
Redd’s Reads
Book Deviant
What She’s Reading.
