Blogger Recognition Award. <3

The rules

  • Thank the person who nominated you and include their link
  • Give a brief explanation of how your blog began.
  • Give some advice to new bloggers.
  • Name ten nominees and include their links.
  • Tag your nominees on twitter to let them know.

Thank you to the wonderful Devyani at Books&Blogs~Life&Literature for the nomination. I believe this is the first time that I’ve been nominated for this particular award and I’m quite flattered and honored to be amongst those she nominated. If you haven’t, you should give her a follow. She’s newer to the community, so give her a huge warm welcome. ❤

So. Advice to new bloggers.

  1. Be Patient. Publicists are very busy. If you’re reaching out to them for an ARC, be very patient. They have a lot on their plates. If they answer, be friendly and personable! Show your excitement and always, always be polite. If they don’t answer you, don’t take it personally.
  2. Have Fun! The minute this feels like a chore? Step back. This is supposed to be fun! The less you enjoy it, the more it’ll show on your blog on those occasions that you post. So bear that in mind.
  3. Engage with the community. There’s a whole circle of bloggers on social media; don’t hold back. Jump in. Ask questions, talk to others, get involved! Almost everyone I’ve met has been so accepting and lovely, happy to help and to talk shop, so to speak.

    4. This is the most important one.

Unique Blogger Award.

Bree over at In Love & Words tagged me in this awhile ago and I honestly just forgot about it till I was going through my notifications. Thank you so much, my lovely! You should definitely give her a follow! I love reading her blog and I do my best to visit often.

So, here are the rules:

  • Display the award!
  • Thank the person who nominated you, and post a link to their blog on your blog.
  • Answer the questions they’ve written for you!
  • Nominate 8-13 bloggers and give them three questions in the spirit of sharing love and solidarity within our blogging family!

My Questions:

1. If you took a nap and woke up in the world of one of your books–where would you be waking up?

2. If you could body swap with any character, who would you pick and why?

3. Give a piece of advice to new book bloggers! 🙂

Bree’s Questions

1. What are your favorite type of book blogger posts to read and why?

I love book tags/award posts. I think they’re so much fun. I love to see what everybody answers. It really shows everyone’s personalities more than a review, honestly.

2. Who is one of your favorite main characters ever written and why? (And what book are they from?)

I always answer Belle, Scarlett O’Hara or Jo March, so for the sake of not having you lot roll your eyes at me, I’ll pick someone else and that, my friends, would be Hermione Granger. What I love about Hermione is that she’s bookish and smart, but she’s a bit insecure about herself, which I can relate to. I think she’s really a wonderful character and I wish I could be her friend. I also love Luna Lovegood because personality wise, we’re pretty similar.

3. Do you like poetry? Do you like reading poetry on blogs?

I love poetry and I wish it was on more blogs. I shared some earlier this year and those posts got zero love. Here’s my favorite.

You may write me down in history
With your bitter, twisted lies,
You may trod me in the very dirt
But still, like dust, I’ll rise.

Does my sassiness upset you?
Why are you beset with gloom?
‘Cause I walk like I’ve got oil wells
Pumping in my living room.

Just like moons and like suns,
With the certainty of tides,
Just like hopes springing high,
Still I’ll rise.

Did you want to see me broken?
Bowed head and lowered eyes?
Shoulders falling down like teardrops,
Weakened by my soulful cries?

Does my haughtiness offend you?
Don’t you take it awful hard
‘Cause I laugh like I’ve got gold mines
Diggin’ in my own backyard.

You may shoot me with your words,
You may cut me with your eyes,
You may kill me with your hatefulness,
But still, like air, I’ll rise.

Does my sexiness upset you?
Does it come as a surprise
That I dance like I’ve got diamonds
At the meeting of my thighs?

Out of the huts of history’s shame
I rise
Up from a past that’s rooted in pain
I rise
I’m a black ocean, leaping and wide,
Welling and swelling I bear in the tide.

Leaving behind nights of terror and fear
I rise
Into a daybreak that’s wondrously clear
I rise
Bringing the gifts that my ancestors gave,
I am the dream and the hope of the slave.
I rise
I rise
I rise.

Dr. Maya Angelou.

Behind The Awesome Blogger Award

The award was created by Maggie at Dreaming of Guatemala who stated – “This is an award for the absolutely wonderful writers all across the blogging world. They have beautiful blogs, are kind and lovely, and always find a way to add happiness and laughter to the lives of their readers. That is what truly defines an awesome blogger.”

The Questions

If you could choose any job to have in the world (fictional or real) what would it be and why?

If I were to pick a real job, I’d say something with animals or I’d work at a bookstore. I absolutely adore animals and I think in another life I’d have been a vet or marine biologist. I’m dreadful at math and science and I have horrible allergies, so that destroyed those dreams. If “Professional Dog Petter” could be a job, sign me up!

In the fiction world…Magizoologist!! Or an Auror. Maybe the Care of Magical Creatures teacher after Hagrid retires?

Who is your favorite booktuber/blogger?

I have too many favorites and I don’t want to offend anyone by picking one over the other! I think you are all unique and individual, each adding something to the book blogging world. ❤

Why did you decide to start blogging?

It was just a split decision.

I wish I were joking. It was just a fun thing that I started because I was kind of bored. But it became so much more!

We all have literary passports, where is yours stamped the most?

The UK because I read so much historical fiction about the British Royals and hello, Hogwarts!  Also, Westeros… :O

What’s your Harry Potter name? Use this generator to find out!

What are some of your guilty pleasures? Whether they are book-related or not.

  • Hot Chocolate with marshmallows and whipped cream.
  • Reading when I should be sleeping. (I’ll sleep when I’m dead or during the day, tbh!)
  • Buying all the Harry Potter things if I have the money! (I mean, seriously, if it’s HP, I’m probably going to want it.)
  • My funko pops. I have so many. And so little room.
  • All the Beauty and the Beast things!

What is something that you love about your blog?

This is the answer that was here and I can’t really change anything! It’s so on point. I will add though, I love that my horizons are being broadened by what other bloggers are reading too.

There are many things that I love about my blog.

  • I love connecting with people from all over the world about shared interests.
  • I love being random and writing weird posts.
  • I love how my writing has improved since I’ve started this blog. (Practice makes better, after all.)
  • I love reading the spam comments!

What is your favorite post that you have personally done?

Can I pick more than one? The posts that I like the most, ironically, are when I’m complaining. But its because I’ve come a long way from these and they show where I was when I began.

Why I Hate 50 Shades.
By far, one of my most popular posts. I don’t know if it’s because I was so honest or because people felt the same way, but I loved the response and that I could get how it was out there.

-My Review of ‘The Manner of Amy’s Death‘. I know it’s terrible but I was SO blunt.

And this was the post that started it all. I notice now, I was cranky as hell! Lol, seriously, I was mean! I hope I’ve gotten better with that. The Emancipator’s Wife.

I’m going to do the same thing–see those questions? Answer those. 🙂 They’re really good and they get you thinking. So have a field day, babes!

Whitney’s Questions:

1: If you could only choose one genre to read for the rest of your life, what would it be?

I’m torn between historical fiction and fantasy. I think I’d probably go with Historical Fiction because there are thousands of years covered and I love reading about them.

2: What is the longest series you have ever read?

Harry Potter, haha. But I want to read Sarah J Maas’s Throne of Glass series, which I think is longer. I’m not sure.

3: Have you ever met any authors in person? If so, who?

I haven’t! I would like to though. Unfortunately, I live in a really small town and we don’t have a bookstore here. Now, online, I have met several of my favorite authors and I’d love to meet with them in person.

4: What color dominates your bookshelves?

I haven’t really thought about that or given it a real look to gauge that. It’s pretty multi-colored, honestly.

5: Do you have any genre that you do not like/would never read?

Erotica. It’s not because I’m a prude or anything, I just don’t like it.

My Questions:

1. When you’re not reading, what do you enjoy doing?
2. Do you shop online for books or do you visit a bookstore? Which do you prefer?
3. When you were a child, what was your favorite book?
4. What is your least favorite book?
5. What is a genre you wish you could get into but just can’t seem to?

My Nominees:

Sophie @ Blame Chocolate
Kristyn @ The Bibliophile Empress
Jolie @ Read With Me
Ashley @Book Tales
Amanda @The Limit of Books Does Not Exist

Siobhan’s Questions & My Answers

  • What trope do you love/hate the most?

I think that the “damaged goods guy” is one. And I mean, I’m sorry this happened to you but that is no reason to treat everyone else like crap. Also, main female character? You deserve better! Leave his creepy self!

  • Now, which trope do you wt to do away with?

I honestly could do without a love triangle. But I know that isn’t going away. I do wish authors would stop using mental illness as a ‘quirk’ or something a few pills will make disappear.

  • Which series do you love to hate?

Fifty Shades of Bullshit.

I love hating on it. I know, it’s immature, but I love seeing people get annoyed after I point out valid facts about that abusive tripe.

  • What do you wish to change/make better about the blogging life/community?

I think I would make interacting a little easier. I would love to set up a Discord server or join one, if one exists, where book bloggers could chat about books, their blogs and all of that wonderful stuff.

  • What is your next anticipated read?

I have so many!! I think my top pick for right now is The Locksmith’s Daughter.

  • Which is your top three OTP (one true pairing)?

Do they have to be canon? Because some of my favorites are not. I am going to list

First, Harry/Hermione. I never really liked her and Ron together, honestly. It just seemed like all they’d do is fight, whereas Hermione and Harry seem to be better suited for each other.

My others are Feyre and Rhysand from ACOTAR and Audrey and Thomas from the Stalking Jack the Ripper series.

  • Who is your favourite villainous character?

Oh my God. How can I pick just one? I love villains. But I think I would pick…Bellatrix Lestrange. She was such a damn boss and Helena Bonham Carter played her with such gusto that I can’t read the books without seeing her. The whole cast of HP was a rare case of perfect casting. “I killed Sirius Black!” I bet you read that in her voice too.

  1. Who would you love to see dead? And when I say that, I mean fictional characters.
  • What is your last DNF book?

The Dragon Queen by William Andrews. Quite dry and I just couldn’t get into it for the life of me.

  • Which book would you love to be transported in?

The Wizarding World, obviously. I am kind of obsessed with Harry Potter if one didn’t notice, lol.

  • Who is your latest book boyfriend or girlfriend?

I don’t have one right now!

I’m not nominating anyone because I am mobile and it’s a pain in the ass to try and tag.

Liebster Award!

6964749I seldom think of myself as someone worthy to win an award and yet, here I am, doing another post where I’ve been nominated. Thank you to Nina @ The Cozy Pages! This was a wonderful surprise. ❤

The Rules:

  • Acknowledge the blog who nominated you and display the award.
  • Answer the 11 questions the blogger gives you.
  • Give 11 random facts about yourself.
  • Nominate 11 blogs.
  • Notify those blogs of the nomination.
  • Give them 11 questions to answer.

The Questions!

1. What book impacted you the most? Either in a thought-provoking, emotional, happy, etc, way.

tumblr_nkl51lsqog1tr2a1xo3_250I think Little Women. Jo made me embrace the fact that I am a theatrical, bookworm who loves to write. It made me embrace that being different was perfectly acceptable and it’s just a book I genuinely love. Winona Ryder will forever be Jo to me, if that’s worth mentioning, lol.

“But, you see, Jo wasn’t a heroine, she was only a struggling human girl like hundreds of others, and she just acted out her nature, being sad, cross, listless, or energetic, as the mood suggested. It’s highly virtuous to say we’ll be good, but we can’t do it all at once, and it takes a long pull, a strong pull, and a pull all together before some of us even get our feet set in the right way.” –Louisa May Alcott

2. If you had one extra day in a week that nobody knew about, what would you do with it?

Oh gosh. Probably just shut off the computer and the tv; play some relaxing music and just read. It would be a non-distraction day.

3. If you could have your own personal library that you could decorate ANY way you wanted (money is not a factor!) what would it look like and what would it HAVE to include (besides books of course!)

Did you honestly think I’d pick anything else? Lol. I’d like it to be autumn too; we never get that here in Florida. So I’d add a big window–one with a window seat–and I would sit there and read, drink hot chocolate and admire the colors of autumn. tumblr_p1fbea07km1w6iojto6_250

4. Describe your personality in 3 words?

Quirky, headstrong, whimsical.

5. What is your favorite time of day?

I love sunset, but I also love when it’s late at night and I’m the only one in my house who is awake.

6. Do you have any siblings?

That’s awkward and complicated to answer, but I was raised as an only child. So no.

7. What two words would you use to describe your blog?

Quirky and Unique.

8. What is the most recent book you bought?

Circe by Madeleine Miller. It was my Book of the Month selection!

9. Can you sing or play an instrument?

Not well and no. I tried piano when I was younger.

10. iPhone or Android?

11. What’s the time right now, as you are typing your answer to this question?

12.32 pm on Easter Sunday.

1. I am right-handed.
2. I love to color and to paint. Adult coloring books are quite wonderful to me.
3. I love to wear mismatched socks.
4. Sunflowers are my favorite flowers.
5. I hate hate hate to clean. I’m a terribly messy person, but I work well in my own chaos.
6. I used to write different names on my papers at school when I was younger because I hated my name.
7. I am still on good terms with some of my teachers from school. My 1st and 3rd-grade teacher is on my Facebook, as are several of my high school English teachers, my 7th-grade phys ed teacher (she was later the Assistant Principal at my high school), my art teacher from 9th grade and a few others.
8. Vincent Van Gogh and Frida Kahlo are my favorite artists.
9. I had to repeat 5th grade.
10. I had to get special permission when I was younger to borrow certain books from the library because I was so young.
11. Scarlett O’Hara is my all time favorite character and Vivien Leigh played her to perfection. Fight me.

She had become adept at putting unpleasant thoughts out of her mind these days. She had learned to say, “I won’t think of this or that bothersome thought now. I’ll think about it tomorrow.” Generally when tomorrow came, the thought either did not occur at all or it was so attenuated by the delay it was not very troublesome.

My Questions:
1. What are your three least favorite books of all time?
2. What’s your favorite genre?
3. Is there an author who you love and no matter whatever anyone says, you’d stick by them?
4.  What is a trope you hate?
5. If you could write a book, what would you call it?
6. What is your favorite thing to drink whilst reading? (Or are you like me and are afraid you’ll stain the pages?)
7. What is your favorite color?
8. If you could live in the world that your favorite book takes place in, which would you pick?
9. E-Reader or physical book? Or both?
10. Do you ever wonder why people don’t like to read?
11. Do you have any pets?
