I just noticed that I’ve hit 100 followers, so I have to say “thank you!” I never thought I’d reach that number; I worked hard to get here. I know for some that’s a minor thing but to me, it’s the world. So I thank you most heartily for it.
I seldom write of personal things on here, but I feel like sharing. I had meant to post on the 1st, start things off right, but I had company! My ‘aunt’ from England was here with her husband and they arrived on Christmas. For the last two weeks, I haven’t really had the time or focus on reading or writing much. I was enjoying their company; it was my first time meeting Ian and he is funny! I had a ball talking to him. Very smart and just a jovial guy. Auntie Pat has known me since I was 10. I haven’t seen her since I was 18, so this was a really wonderful visit. I have always been in awe of her, she’s so well traveled and funny, but she’s wise and full of wit. She imparted some to me this visit and while I won’t bore you with it, what she said meant an awful lot to me. It has made me want to change things in my life and to plan.
That plan includes my dream of visiting the UK! I have taken one of my parents discarded coffee jars and I put all my change in it and will continue to do so. I also put some of my spending money in there. I know so many people across the pond and I’m not getting any younger. So, if not this year, 2019. I have wanted to visit since I was little; I mean, hello, that’s where the Spice Girls hail from! My reasons have changed, obviously. I love the history and I would love to see the royals, but I would honestly just love to have the experience, you know? See the places I read about so much. But if Scary, Baby, Ginger, Posh, and Sporty want to greet me at the airport, I wouldn’t say no. Girl Power Forever! (I’m totally *not* listening to them as I write this post. I mean, I’m 31. They’re so 1997. >.>)
She also spoiled me…three new books on Queen Elizabeth II (God Save The Queen!) and as you can see, a lot of newspapers, inserts from British newspapers, and magazines. There was even a 2018 calendar! So I get to look at royal couples all year. My friend Mary-Louise sent me some newspapers too about Harry and Meghan’s engagement, so I had a lovely Christmas. It was very British, to say the least! I’ve always joked I was born in the wrong country; I’ve always had an affinity towards England. Perhaps it’s the weather; perhaps it’s because of the royals, I don’t know. This isn’t to say I don’t love the USA, I just have always had a longing to be in the UK and also Ireland. (My ancestors hail from Ireland, so I get that.)
This year, I am hoping to read more books in different genres; I am open to suggestions and you can comment below with things that you guys are reading or that you’ve read and enjoyed. I love to try new books. I wish I was as open to trying new food as I am books, haha. I hope to post more, to write a little more personal and to see how the year goes. Let’s make 2018 an awesome year, guys. Whether it’s little changes or something huge, make it your year.
As ever, I consider you my friends and I want to impart this advice to you: if you’re hurting, reach out to me. I will always have time to talk to you and to hear you out. I will help in any way I can. If not me, someone. Don’t let this world lose you. I understand mental health issues. I’m still kind of shaken up by Chester Bennington’s passing last year. I miss him dearly. (Weird to miss someone you’ve never met.) Linkin Park’s songs meant the world to me when I was younger; they resonated with me. They still do. And I listen almost every day again, which is why I am posting this in this particular post. Start the year knowing you have a friend and someone who would care if your ‘light’ would go out. There is help if you feel like it’s all too much.
So, try and find what makes you happy. Do what makes you happy. Read more, turn off the news sometimes. Go out. Buy that shirt if you want it. Go to that concert. Do things to make your life amazing. We only get one; might as well make it amazing. 😀
Here’s to 2018, guys. ❤
Be kind to one another. You never know what someone is going through.
